Chapter 6

Gregory looked at Wes and then at Darien. They exchanged glances and then nodded to Gregory who released the frightened vampire.

“Who are you?” Wes barked.

“That’s the one I just mentioned who had come into town with Gabe. He is Luther,” Darien explained.

“Then he is just a traitor to his kind as well. Let me at him,” Emman said as he took a few steps towards Luther.

“Hold on a second Emman,” Darien said as he stepped over to the vampire. “Didn’t I ask you several times to leave town? What were you doing with Alesha?”

“I swear, she is crazy man,” Luther said as he shielded himself from Gregory while standing up. He brushed off his coat and then faced the throng of curious faces waiting for an explanation. “When you told me to leave town, there was nothing I wanted to do more. Grant and I were leaving when we ran into Alesha. She wanted to know where her father was, and well, when we wouldn’t tell her, she gave me this,” he said as he tilted his head to the side to reveal a gash just above his temple. “She isn’t the friendliest of creatures, and I would rather take my chances pissing you off rather than her. But soon we realized just how crazy she is. We warned her to stay away from you, but she was like a rabid dog. Finally, Grant and I decided we would find Taylor and find out if we could hang with him. He didn’t have any problems harboring us when Gabe was around.”

“Weren’t you afraid to leave her coven then?” Wes asked him.

“You must be the dog,” he said as he glared at Wes. Wes growled to emphasize the point and Luther shivered and stepped back. “I was, but I figured I had a better chance of surviving if I left. Grant followed me afterwards. But now she has Dash and Lucius and who knows who else. She is a mad woman I tell you, and she needs to be stopped.”

“So why were you with her in the woods when I was attacked?” Darien wanted to know.

“I wasn’t with her,” Luther protested. “I was looking for Taylor, just like you. I was just as surprised she turned up, which was why I got dumb struck. Sorry man,” he said as he shrugged his shoulders and looked at Wes. “There was no way I was going to tango with her.”

“So where does she sleep?” Gregory asked.

Luther looked at him in a weird way as if to say he wasn’t having a conversation with him. Then he turned his attention to Darien. “I just want to be left alone to live my life, just like you, and I don’t think that will be possible as long as she is around.”

“But that’s the problem,” Wes interjected. “There will always be someone. We are immortals with nothing to do for an eternity. Surely we need distractions,” he said sarcastically.”Where does she sleep?”

“I can take you there, but you have to be careful.
